Wistia Free: the logo and the bandwidth cap
Wistia Free is the pick if a small library can keep the logo and stay under the monthly bandwidth cap.
Quick answer
Stay if your library is small and you can live with the logo on the player. Leave if an embedded video has already stopped playing, or if the video needs to convert paid traffic.
You are on Wistia Free because the player does not run ads and the invoice is zero. The question is whether the logo and the bandwidth cap are acceptable for the video you have now.
I would stay if the library is small and you can live with the logo on the player. I would leave if an embedded video has already stopped playing, or if the video needs to convert paid traffic. That judgment comes from Wistia's pricing page and its help articles. We did not run this plan on a live campaign.
The Free card lists a maximum of 25 GB of storage, one user, and 3,000 or more monthly credits. The credits article describes the free allotment as 3,000, one-time, and says it does not expire. Hosting and playback do not use credits. The card and the article do not use the same words, so this page does not collapse them into one rule.
Bandwidth is separate from credits. The pricing page includes 200 GB a month. The usage article says a free plan cannot incur an overage or buy more bandwidth. After a short grace period past that cap, embedded videos stop playing until the next billing month.
What the free player leaves out
Removing the Wistia logo is not included on this plan. It requires the Business plan. Heatmaps, engagement graphs and A/B testing are not included either. Basic analytics stay.
A help library can live with the logo. A landing page whose only purpose is making sales usually cannot keep the logo. A sales video that needs conversion tracking requires a player that can pass sales data back, and this plan cannot do that.
If you are leaving, the free Wistia alternatives page ranks the hosts that still have a free tier. People leaving a paid Wistia plan should start at Wistia alternatives instead. The Wistia review covers Business and the library tools. Work out the hosting cost once you go past the free allowance.
What works
- The plan has no monthly fee, and the player is Wistia's ad-free player with basic analytics.
- Hosting and playback do not use credits.
- The storage and bandwidth allowances are enough for a small library.
What to watch
- The Wistia logo remains on the player. Removing the logo requires the Business plan.
- Heatmaps, engagement graphs and A/B testing are not included.
- Once you pass the monthly bandwidth cap, after a short grace period, embeds stop playing. You cannot buy extra bandwidth on this plan.

Mara edits the reviews and roundups on VSL Host Report. She checks autoplay, watch time, timed buttons, lead gates and page speed when the visitor is new and the traffic is paid. She also maps what each host really costs, whether it bills per play, per gigabyte or per seat, and rebuilds the monthly bill for a typical VSL funnel. For each piece she reads long-term user reports across forums and review sites, works through the vendor's own docs and pricing, and confirms the numbers before a verdict goes live.
