SproutVideo pricing

Every plan bundles storage and a bandwidth allowance, and SproutVideo bills each gigabyte beyond it while the video keeps streaming. The bigger the plan, the cheaper each extra gigabyte.

By Mara Vance. Prices verified with the vendor, October 2026.

What drives your bill

SproutVideo charges a plan fee that includes storage and a bandwidth allowance. On annual plans the allowance is stated per year, from 1,800 GB on Seed to 24 TB on Forest. Past the allowance you pay for each extra gigabyte, $0.25 on Seed and $0.06 on Forest, and videos keep playing.

For a VSL on cold paid traffic, weigh the pricing model against what you get back. SproutVideo is the pick if you need private business or training video locked to your own sites and named viewers, with CTAs and lead capture built in, and you do not need the host to tie a play to a sale.

What one sales video costs on SproutVideo

These rows use annual prices, each plan's yearly bandwidth spread evenly over twelve months, a terabyte counted as 1,000 GB, and the 3.33 Mbps stream this site assumes. The modest case is a 20-minute video seen by 5,000 visitors who watch a quarter of it. The heavy case is a 45-minute video seen by 30,000 visitors who watch a fifth.

Delivered Delivery Storage Total
Seed, one modest VSL: 20 minutes, 5,000 visitors, a quarter watched
625 GB $118.75 Included $130.75
Tree, the same VSL: 20 minutes, 5,000 visitors, a quarter watched
625 GB Included Included $72
Seed, heavy traffic: 45 minutes, 30,000 visitors, a fifth watched
6,700 GB $1,637.50 Included $1,649.50
Forest, heavy traffic: 45 minutes, 30,000 visitors, a fifth watched
6,700 GB $282 Included $477

Seed's overage outweighs its fee as soon as one sales video draws steady traffic, so a seller expecting that volume should start on Tree or Forest. Voomly's Plus plan includes unlimited bandwidth at $19 a month in both cases.

Can you cap SproutVideo spending?

Partly. An account setting switches streaming off once usage reaches a limit you choose, which turns a surprise bill into a paused video.

SproutVideo's help article says it does its best to stop at that limit but cannot promise zero extra charges when streaming is very fast, so treat the cap as a brake that can slip on a traffic spike. Read SproutVideo's bandwidth FAQ.

What works

  • A 30-day trial of every feature needs no credit card, so you can lock down a real video and read its analytics before paying.
  • Access control goes deep: passwords and a domain whitelist, viewer login from Sprout, dynamic watermarks with the viewer's email and session ID from Tree, and country or IP rules on Forest.
  • In-player calls to action, lead capture forms, post-play screens and HubSpot, Mailchimp and Zapier links come with Seed, so a gated demo needs no upgrade.
  • Engagement heatmaps and per-viewer records show where a video loses people and which named viewer finished it, with CSV export.
  • Live streams and on-demand video share one account and one white-label, ad-free player.
  • Capterra reviewers single out the support team and describe the product as easy to set up.

What to watch

  • Bandwidth is metered. Seed's 1,800 GB a year averages about 150 GB a month, and one 20-minute VSL that 5,000 visitors watch for a quarter of its length uses about 625 GB, which adds roughly $119 a month at $0.25 per extra gigabyte. Tree's larger allowance absorbs that video.
  • No sale attribution. SproutVideo does not offer sound-first autoplay that restarts on unmute, split tests judged on sales, or cart-verified conversions sent to ad platforms. Gates, CTAs and CRM sync still work for lead capture.
  • Encryption stops at AES-128 delivery, without Widevine or FairPlay DRM, so a course seller fighting lesson piracy relies on logins and watermarks to deter leaks.
  • The optional bandwidth cap can slip. SproutVideo's FAQ says it cannot guarantee zero overage during very fast streaming, and a few Trustpilot reviews describe disputes over billing credits.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free SproutVideo plan?
No. A 30-day trial without a card comes first, then Seed is the cheapest plan.
How much does annual billing save?
Seed drops from $15 to $12 a month, Sprout from $45 to $35, Tree from $95 to $72 and Forest from $295 to $195.
Do videos stop when I pass my allowance?
No, they keep playing and the extra gigabytes are billed, unless you have set a usage cap.
Which plan adds dynamic watermarks?
Tree and Forest. Signed embed codes arrive on the same tier.
Why does overage cost less on Forest?
The per-gigabyte rate falls as the plan rises, so heavy traffic is cheaper on the top tier even with its higher fee.

She looks at how a video player behaves on cold paid traffic: autoplay and unmute behaviour, per-second retention, timed CTAs, lead gates and load speed. She also maps what each host really costs, whether it bills per play, per gigabyte or per seat, and rebuilds the monthly bill for a typical VSL funnel. For each piece she reads long-term user reports across forums and review sites, works through the vendor's own docs and pricing, and confirms the numbers before a verdict goes live.
