Pricing
Mux pricing
Mux bills on a usage-based model, starting at Free; Launch is $20/month. Here is what that means for a VSL funnel and what really drives the bill.
What drives your bill
Mux bills on a usage-based model. The starting paid plan is Free; Launch is $20/month, and the entry option is 100k monthly delivery minutes, 100k robots units and up to 10 stored videos, no card. The number that actually moves your cost is how the model meters usage: on a usage-based basis, your spend tracks the way your traffic watches, so model your own volume before committing.
For a VSL on cold paid traffic, weigh the pricing model against what you get back. Mux is the pick if you have a developer and want included quality-of-experience analytics, optional DRM and fast just-in-time publishing, and you will build autoplay, calls to action and attribution yourself.
What works
- The API covers upload, encoding, storage, on-demand and live delivery, with RTMP and SRT ingest. Developers get one managed video pipeline instead of stitching together an encoder, object storage, a CDN and a player.
- Mux Player and Mux Data advanced engagement analytics are included. That gives a product team playback and quality-of-experience data without a separate analytics subscription.
- The free tier is large enough for a prototype: 100,000 monthly delivery minutes, 100,000 Robots units and up to ten stored on-demand videos, with no card required.
- Just-in-time encoding shortens upload-to-play time. Mux says three-quarters of uploaded videos become playable within five seconds.
- Media-grade DRM is available for protected content, while signed URLs and domain restriction are included without the DRM add-on.
What to watch
- There is no finished VSL conversion kit. Sound-first autoplay, timed calls to action, lead gates, sales experiments and cart-verified attribution all need application work around the player.
- Usage billing can climb with a long video and a large cold audience. Delivered minutes are the cost driver after the free allowance, and user reports specifically warn that Mux can get expensive at scale.
- A developer is required to get the value. The API removes video-infrastructure work, while your team still owns playback behavior, funnel events, identity and checkout integrations.
- Support evidence is mixed. One verified review excerpt on a G2 comparison page says a response might take days, although that source is a pattern from a comparison page rather than a standalone Mux review.

Mara edits the reviews and roundups on VSL Host Report. She looks at how a video player behaves on cold paid traffic: autoplay and unmute behaviour, per-second retention, timed CTAs, lead gates and load speed. She also maps what each host really costs, whether it bills per play, per gigabyte or per seat, and rebuilds the monthly bill for a typical VSL funnel. For each piece she reads long-term user reports across forums and review sites, works through the vendor's own docs and pricing, and confirms the numbers before a verdict goes live.
