Head-to-head

Vimeo vs Adilo

Down to Vimeo or Adilo for a sales video? Vimeo caps bandwidth, and Adilo leaves plays unmetered with the button in the player.

By Mara Vance, reviewed by the VSL Host Report desk. Updated October 2026.

Quick answer

Pick Vimeo if you need an ad-free host for a content library or brand video, with a URL that stays put when you swap the file and second-by-second engagement on Pro, Business and Premium; pick Adilo if you want unlimited plays on every plan including free, in-video buy buttons, lead forms, pixels and A/B tests in one dashboard, and you can accept the bug reports and the support load.

The shortlist is down to two hosts, and the video has to sit on a sales page with no ads in the player and no bill that spikes when the embed gets a lot of traffic. Vimeo and Adilo are both general business hosts. The split is what they meter, and what they let you attach to the video.

Vimeo is the library. Registering for free brings an ad-free player with 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision support, and a paid plan is where the engagement report lives. Adilo sells the marketing layer with the hosting: buttons, forms, banners, pixels and a two-video test, and its homepage treats plays as unmetered. Adilo sits one spot ahead of Vimeo for that mix in this site's roundup. The higher spot comes with the reliability complaints reviewers have filed.

If you buy traffic against a cart-verified sale, neither host posts that sale to Meta or TikTok. The comparison for that job is TrackPlay vs Vimeo.

Where Adilo pulls ahead

What works

  • Unlimited streaming and bandwidth on every plan, including the free one, so a long VSL on heavy cold traffic never runs up an overage bill. Storage is the only thing the paid plan meters.
  • A real marketing layer sits inside the player: in-video buy buttons, lead and email capture forms, callout banners, countdown timers and Facebook and Google retargeting pixels, plus A/B video split testing and engagement heatmaps.
  • One tool covers a lot of ground: ad-free 4K hosting, a built-in screen and camera recorder, branded channel pages, AI subtitles in 31 languages, and DRM with per-viewer watermarking as a security add-on.

What to watch

  • Users across review sites call the platform buggy and slow, with pages that need reloading and videos that sometimes fail to process, and support can be slow to resolve those problems.
  • Attribution stops at retargeting pixels. Adilo fires a Facebook or Google pixel on a view, but no server-to-server sale reaches the ad platforms, so you still cannot see which play earned the purchase.

Bandwidth on one side, storage on the other

Vimeo's help center sets the paid-plan threshold at 2TB a month, counted as 2,000GB. A free account is split in two. Public videos that nobody embeds have no bandwidth cap. Embeddable videos, and anything that is not public, are capped at 1TB a month, counted as 1,000GB. A sales page embeds the file, so those views count against the bandwidth cap on a free account and on a paid one.

The paid tiers are Starter, Standard and Advanced, and each includes a 7-day trial. If the account stays over the threshold, Vimeo can require a custom plan, a lower traffic level, or a move to another host. The window to respond is seven days, and the risk after that is suspension. Reviews on Capterra say heavy embedding can limit an account and push it onto a more expensive custom plan for bitrate and traffic.

Adilo's pricing page asks you to try a limited free plan before you upgrade. The paid Unlimited plan is priced by how much you store, and annual billing is advertised at 40% off. Streaming is the part the homepage says carries no hidden fee.

Keep Vimeo if viewers watch the library on Vimeo and you embed only now and then. Choose Adilo when the video lives on a page that can draw heavy traffic and you want the bill to be for storage.

Cheap video hosting covers what a long embed costs on hosts other than these two. The cost calculator runs one video through each host.

Buttons, forms and the retention report

On Adilo, the player is part of the offer. You can collect leads and bookings in the video, send a viewer to another URL, and show banners, with countdown timers in the same set of controls. Adilo's homepage says you install a Facebook or Google pixel on the video to track the ROI that video generated. The split test compares two videos to see which performs better, and heatmaps show which parts viewers kept watching.

Recording is included at 4K, so you can record the video in the same account that hosts it.

Vimeo's form is a contact form inside its player, and it can sync to HubSpot or Mailchimp. The form feeds a marketing list. A checkout button is the other column of this table. The analytics help article describes a report of one viewing session, then an estimate of how many viewers reached each moment. If you play the Vimeo file in a different player, those finishes and that engagement are not counted.

Course protection is a separate purchase on Adilo. Multi-DRM encryption and dynamic watermarking come as the Unified Video Security add-on, for premium and paid content such as online courses and internal company videos. The pricing page describes protection against piracy, screen recording, illegal downloads, unauthorized access and sharing. The free plan does not include it. A public sales page can leave the add-on off. That add-on is sold for a paid course library.

Stay for the URL, or import the library

A library that already lives on Vimeo has a concrete reason to stay. You can swap the file, fix a typo or add a new call to action, and the URL does not change. Views, shares and the analytics already collected stay on that URL. Bookmarks and embeds that already point at that URL keep working.

Adilo's hosting page says you can import videos from Vimeo, from Wistia and from other platforms. Once the file is there, Adilo can replace it without changing the URL, so the landing page does not need a new embed every time you recut. Import, point the page at the new host, then keep replacing on that stable address.

Think twice before you move a live embed, because reviewers keep reporting bugs. Capterra reviewers call Adilo very buggy. One Trustpilot reviewer reported contacting support more than 25 times over more than a year, for bugs and server issues. The import path is real. The support load is why you stage the move.

Our pick

Adilo

Adilo is the pick if you want unlimited-streaming hosting, a built-in recorder and in-video marketing tools in one place, and you can live with a platform that still has rough edges.

Frequently asked questions

Which host is better for a sales video on a landing page?
Adilo, when the page needs an in-video ask and the traffic might be heavy. Vimeo, when the job is a library, a stable link and a paid engagement report. The bug reports are why the call is narrow.
Is bandwidth unlimited on either host?
Only Adilo treats streaming as uncapped, from the first account. Vimeo's cap is monthly, and a free embed is tighter than a paid account.
Will either one send the sale to Meta?
A pixel on an Adilo video can tell Facebook or Google that the video was viewed. That is not a receipt from the cart. Vimeo does not pass the purchase along either.
What do Vimeo and Adilo cost?
Vimeo is a subscription, with a free account and a trial on the paid tiers. Adilo's free plan is the limited one in the table. The paid plan charges for storage, and the annual term is the discounted one.
