Search for a VSL host, or ask which video host to use, and you get the same ranked list for every funnel. A 25-minute Meta pitch that must report a ClickBank order is a different job from a course sold through Stripe, and a different job from a nurture video that never reports a sale.

The five questions below are the video hosting quiz. They cover where the traffic comes from, how long the video runs, whether the cart must report the sale, whether the file needs course protection, and what you can spend. You get one host, why it fits, and a link to the review.

The rules use each vendor's feature and pricing pages, and what course sellers and marketers say when they choose. Course sellers weighing paid training often put DRM and access control ahead of the brand name, which is what [this course-seller thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/onlinecourses/comments/1w92oe8/comment/p8bm6z3/) spells out. [How we evaluate video hosts](/methodology) describes that reading.

The short answer

If the cart must tie the sale to that viewing session, the host is TrackPlay. Paid traffic that needs conversion tracking on the player points to Vidalytics Pro. Lessons sold through Stripe point to Spotlightr Plus. A library that needs Widevine and FairPlay points to VdoCipher.

### How a host gets matched to the answers

Five inputs into one player: traffic, length, the cart, protection and budget.

Course protection is the first split, because a locked lesson is a different product from a sales video. Lessons sold through Stripe point to Spotlightr Plus. Plus includes course modules with paid access via Stripe, and [Spotlightr's pricing page](https://spotlightr.com/pricing/) says every upload is encrypted with HLS, which stops a browser extension from downloading the file. Light, the plan under Plus, is $13 a month on the annual bill, or $15 month to month. The [secure hosting guide](/best/secure-video-hosting-platform) goes further on protection.

A training library that needs Google Widevine and Apple FairPlay points to VdoCipher. The [VdoCipher homepage](https://www.vdocipher.com/) offers a 30-day trial with no credit card. That choice stands even when the ads and the cart would have named a sales player.

When the file is a normal sales video and the cart must tie the sale to that viewing session, the host is TrackPlay. [Its features page](https://trackplay.io/features) lists ClickBank, BuyGoods, Digistore24, WarriorPlus, JVZoo and Kiwify, and the setup is one URL plus a secret. [The pricing page](https://trackplay.io/pricing) bills on plays. A muted autoplay that nobody unmutes is not a play. The basic paid plan is $29 a month with 5,000 plays included. The free plan needs no credit card. Playback pauses at the monthly cap, and the bill stays at zero past that cap. TrackPlay is built for the video that sells. Course modules and DRM sit with the two hosts above, and a lesson library stays with them.

If the budget is free, and you did not ask for course protection or a cart report, the host is YouTube. On a sales page, that embed can show suggested videos next to the offer. [Vidalytics pricing](https://www.vidalytics.com/pricing) puts 1,000 plays on Free Forever, and conversion tracking on Pro. Pro is $63 a month on the annual bill, and that tier also lists heatmaps and segmentation. The [cheap hosting guide](/best/cheap-video-hosting) compares the free plans with the cheaper paid ones. The [YouTube review](/reviews/youtube-alternative) covers a sales-page embed in more detail.

When you want cheap delivery and a developer will build the player, the host is Bunny Stream. [Bunny's Stream pricing](https://bunny.net/pricing/stream/) charges for the traffic you use. Encoding is free, storage starts at $0.01 per GB, CDN delivery starts at $0.005 per GB, and the monthly minimum is $1\. How long the file is, and how much of it people watch, changes that bill. The [cost calculator](/best/vsl-hosting-cost-calculator-what-one-sales-video-costs-on-each-host) runs the arithmetic. The length you pick is one of the inputs that sum uses. Which host you get still depends on the job, the cart, protection and the budget.

Organic posts or email, when the sale can stay inside the checkout, point to Wistia. Marketers who have left YouTube often name it for analytics, tests and lead capture, as in [this marketer thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/MarketersSuccessClub/comments/1n33juq/comment/nbumpbp/). The [Wistia review](/reviews/wistia) describes the player. The [analytics guide](/best/video-hosting-with-analytics) covers retention charts.

Paid ads that need watch and conversion data, and an agency account that missed the earlier rules, land on Vidalytics Pro. Experiments there can optimize for CTA clicks, conversions, watch time or revenue, and a Winner Recommender names the leading variant. The [A/B testing guide](/best/video-hosting-with-a-b-testing) covers how to score a test. An agency choosing separate client workspaces should also open the [agency guide](/best/video-hosting-for-agencies).

A sales player, a locked course folder, and a usage meter.

### A Meta VSL on ClickBank, under $150

Take a Meta campaign, a 25-minute VSL, a ClickBank checkout, an order ClickBank has to send back, and a budget under $150\. Course protection is off, so the cart rule is the one that decides. ClickBank is on the list in the section above, which makes the host TrackPlay. The [TrackPlay review](/reviews/trackplay) goes into the player around that report.

Take the cart report away and leave the paid traffic. The host is then Vidalytics Pro, the tier with conversion tracking and Experiments. Details are in the [Vidalytics review](/reviews/vidalytics). No published comparison runs these two hosts on the same sales video, so there is no lift figure here.

Add a Stripe payment on the lessons and protection decides before the cart. The host is Spotlightr Plus. The [Spotlightr review](/reviews/spotlightr) walks through the course modules. If the library needs DRM instead, the host is VdoCipher, which offers Widevine and FairPlay. The [VdoCipher review](/reviews/vdocipher) has the rest.

### When the right host is YouTube, Bunny or Wistia

A zero budget, with no locked lesson and no cart report, names YouTube. Open the [Bunny Stream review](/reviews/bunny-stream) when the bill should follow traffic and a developer will build the player. Wistia fits when people arrive from organic posts or email and the checkout keeps the sale to itself.

You get one host matched to the answers, plus the reason. No published test of one sales video shows one of these hosts selling more than another, so the reason stays on the fit.

### My take

I would start with protection and the cart, and I would skip the monthly budget until those two are settled. A Stripe payment or a DRM library changes the host even when the same ad account stays. A zero budget is what sends you to YouTube instead of a paid host.

Once the host is chosen, I would put the length and the traffic into the calculator, especially when the host charges for traffic. For the full ranking, which weighs the player and the bill together, see [the best video hosting for VSLs and sales videos](/best).

### Frequently asked questions

What separates a VSL host from a course host?

Sales videos need the order or the watch tied to the player. Lessons need a payment on the module, or DRM. Protection is the question for a teaching file. The cart is the question for a file that sells.

Do plays and gigabytes cost the same?

A play is one viewing session. Gigabytes are the data sent, so someone who watches a long file costs more on a traffic bill. Bunny numbers belong in the calculator.

Can a sales video be hosted on YouTube?

Hosting itself costs nothing. The player still offers other videos, and someone who arrived from an ad can leave before the pitch ends. Use YouTube for clips that find people, and a dedicated player for the video that has to hold them.

Mara edits the reviews and roundups on VSL Host Report. She checks autoplay, watch time, timed buttons, lead gates and page speed when the visitor is new and the traffic is paid. She also maps what each host really costs, whether it bills per play, per gigabyte or per seat, and rebuilds the monthly bill for a typical VSL funnel. For each piece she reads long-term user reports across forums and review sites, works through the vendor's own docs and pricing, and confirms the numbers before a verdict goes live.
