## Free hosts to replace Vimeo

Your embed library hit the unpaid cap. Here is what still hosts it at no charge, and what to use when the video has to sell.

[See our top pick](#ranked) [How we research](/methodology)

By [Mara Vance](/authors/mara-vance), reviewed by the VSL Host Report desk. Updated October 2026.

**Disclosure:**We may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. It never affects our rankings.

You hosted the business or portfolio video on Vimeo Free because you were already familiar with it, and because the player does not run ads. Then a file on your website stopped playing for visitors.

A library that only has to play needs a different host from a video that has to sell. TrackPlay leads this list when the video has to sell on traffic you pay for. Wistia is the host to open when you only need more embed storage at no charge.

[Work out what this video costs after you leave the free allowance](/best/vsl-hosting-cost-calculator-what-one-sales-video-costs-on-each-host). The three inputs are length, visitors and how much of the video they watch.

### A free alternative to Vimeo that you can stay on

[The Free plan](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/12425432518801-About-the-Vimeo-Free-plan) caps embeddable and non-public storage at 3 GB. Public videos that are not embeddable have no storage limit. [The embedding article](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/12426275096337-Embedding-features-by-plan-type) says every embeddable video counts toward that cap, even a public one. Files embedded on your website draw from that allowance.

The same Free plan page includes 1 TB of bandwidth a month for embeddable and non-public video, resetting at the start of each billing month. Public videos that are not embedded do not use that bandwidth. On a typical business site, storage runs out first.

That page also says there are no ads before, after, or on the video. A portfolio stays on Vimeo for that reason.

Once your library exceeds the cap, Vimeo restricts the newest files first, until the library is back under the limit or you upgrade. The [lapse FAQ](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/12425417275665-FAQ-Lapsing-from-a-paid-account-to-a-Free-account) explains that order. It also says Password, Unlisted and embed-only videos are changed to Private, so a password link or a hidden embed stops working for visitors.

Background embeds and chromeless layouts, which hide the player interface, are paid. So is hiding the Vimeo logo, the play bar, the volume control and the fullscreen button. The Free plan keeps the logo. Both points are in the embedding article.

On [one r/vimeo thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/vimeo/comments/1sxvcex/looking%5Ffor%5Fa%5Ffree%5Fvideo%5Fhosting%5Falternative%5Fto/), a creator with about 2 to 3 GB of video was told to see whether another host's free storage would cover it. On [a portfolio thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/vimeo/comments/1v9dzhf/free%5Falternative%5Fto%5Fvimeo%5Ffor%5Fportfolio%5Fvideos/), people point those embeds at Wistia's free tier.

Quick answer

I'd start with TrackPlay when the video has to sell on traffic you are paying for. The free plan is billed on plays, and the cart posts the sale back. I'd open Wistia when you only need a bigger embed library at no charge: 25 GB, with the Wistia logo still on the player.

Ranked

### Vimeo Free alternatives, ranked

[ ](/reviews/trackplay)

#### 1\. TrackPlay: best Vimeo Free alternative for a sale postback

TrackPlay is the pick if you run paid traffic to a VSL and need every play tied to the actual sale.

TrackPlay is a VSL player and analytics platform for paid-traffic funnels. The video sits behind one embed, and the cart posts the verified sale back onto the play that earned it. [TrackPlay](https://trackplay.io/pricing) includes a no-card free plan billed on plays.

Wistia and Adilo store a file at no charge. Vidalytics gives you a short run of plays on a pitch. This host closes the loop from the view to the purchase. Player behaviour, the buyer-versus-everyone retention split, and the postback are set out in the [TrackPlay review](/reviews/trackplay).

It is narrow by design. The product is built for a paid-traffic sales video, so a content library's channels, SEO pages and webinar tools are not part of it. On a sales page, you still get the player, the watch data and the sale postback. Channels, SEO pages and webinars are for a content library, and this page does not need them.

Outside reviews are still thin, which is what you would expect of a platform this new.

[ ](/reviews/wistia)

#### 2\. Wistia: best Vimeo Free alternative for more embed storage at $0

Wistia is the pick if your video's job is B2B content marketing and lead capture.

The free player shows the Wistia logo, and that logo comes off on the Business plan. [Wistia](https://wistia.com/pricing) also lists 200 GB of bandwidth and one user on the free plan, with no card.

A portfolio that has outgrown Vimeo Free fits in that storage allowance, with room left. That is the comparison the portfolio threads are making.

A help library can keep the logo. A landing page whose only job is to take the order usually cannot. TrackPlay, higher in this list, posts the sale back. Vidalytics, further down, is a short run of free plays.

Wistia can tag a lead based on how much of the video a viewer watched. The purchase is still not sent from the cart to the ad account. Paid seats and the library tools are in the [Wistia review](/reviews/wistia). [Wistia vs Vimeo](/compare/wistia-vs-vimeo) is the matchup once both sides are paid products. If the logo or the per-seat price is the reason to leave, read [Wistia alternatives](/alternatives/wistia) next.

[Visit Wistia (opens in a new tab) ](https://wistia.com/?utm%5Fsource=vslhostreport.com&utm%5Fmedium=affiliate&utm%5Fcampaign=alternatives) [Read the Wistia review](/reviews/wistia)

[ ](/reviews/adilo)

#### 3\. Adilo: best Vimeo Free alternative for an ad-free marketing player

Adilo is the pick if you want hosting with unlimited streaming, a built-in recorder and in-video marketing tools in one place, and you can live with a platform that still has rough edges.

Open Adilo when you want marketing tools in the player and you want the bill to stay at zero. [The free-forever page](https://adilo.com/free-forever) says Adilo will never display ads on your videos, on a site or in a funnel, and signup does not ask for a card.

Read the storage limit in your Adilo account before you upload the library. This page does not state a gigabyte figure for that plan.

Adilo will host the file and give you in-player tools. The purchase still stays in your cart, unreported to the ad platform. The [Adilo review](/reviews/adilo) has the support record and the paid storage plan.

Choose Adilo when the embed has to do more than play. Move to Vidalytics or TrackPlay when the page is buying traffic.

[Visit Adilo (opens in a new tab) ](https://adilo.com/?utm%5Fsource=vslhostreport.com&utm%5Fmedium=affiliate&utm%5Fcampaign=alternatives) [Read the Adilo review](/reviews/adilo)

[ ](/reviews/vidalytics)

#### 4\. Vidalytics: best Vimeo Free alternative for free plays

Vidalytics is the pick if you want a proven direct-response player with deep conversion analytics and can live with play-based pricing.

Vidalytics counts its free plan in plays. [Vidalytics](https://www.vidalytics.com/pricing) calls the tier Free Forever: 1,000 plays a month and three stored videos. One pitch can sit on a landing page with no card. The allowance ends when the traffic does.

The logo remains until you pay. Removing Vidalytics branding is a paid player feature, and the mark leaves the player only after that feature is enabled. A test page can show it. A page that is buying traffic should remove it.

Three videos will hold a pitch while you learn whether the page converts. They will not hold a portfolio. Paid play bands are listed in the [Vidalytics review](/reviews/vidalytics). TrackPlay, higher in this list, sends the purchase back to the ad platform.

[Visit Vidalytics (opens in a new tab) ](https://vidalytics.com/?utm%5Fsource=vslhostreport.com&utm%5Fmedium=affiliate&utm%5Fcampaign=alternatives) [Read the Vidalytics review](/reviews/vidalytics)

[ ](/reviews/voomly)

#### 5\. Voomly: best Vimeo Free alternative for a five-video starter

Voomly is the pick if you want interactive funnels in the player and the creation apps on the Cloud plan, with the bandwidth cap removed on Plus.

Voomly Light is five videos, 250 GB of storage and 5 GB of bandwidth, listed on [the homepage](https://www.voomly.com/).

Five files are enough to try a funnel. That bandwidth is used up once strangers watch the whole pitch. Treat Light as a starter, and move off it when the traffic arrives.

Interactive funnels and the creation apps live on the paid tiers. Voomly does not connect a play to a purchase. What you pay once you leave Light is in the [Voomly review](/reviews/voomly).

[Visit Voomly (opens in a new tab) ](https://voomly.com/?utm%5Fsource=vslhostreport.com&utm%5Fmedium=affiliate&utm%5Fcampaign=alternatives) [Read the Voomly review](/reviews/voomly)

[ ](/reviews/panda-video)

#### 6\. Panda Video: best Vimeo Free alternative for a trial that ends

Panda Video is the pick if you sell courses or run affiliate offers and want VSL features with serious anti-piracy.

Panda Video's free offer is a trial. The period with no bill ends.

Use it to try a player that also locks down course video. Decide on a paid plan before the trial ends. A portfolio that has to stay online with no invoice belongs with Wistia or Adilo.

Paid Panda plans are in the [Panda Video review](/reviews/panda-video).

[Visit Panda Video (opens in a new tab) ](https://pandavideo.com/?utm%5Fsource=vslhostreport.com&utm%5Fmedium=affiliate&utm%5Fcampaign=alternatives) [Read the Panda Video review](/reviews/panda-video)

[ ](/reviews/bunny-stream)

#### 7\. Bunny Stream: best Vimeo Free alternative for metered delivery

Bunny Stream is the pick if you have a developer and want cheap, fast, protected video delivery, and you are willing to build the VSL conversion layer yourself. It is not a sales-video player out of the box.

Bunny Stream is for a team that has a developer. The free window is a trial. After the trial, the account has a monthly minimum spend.

You get encoding, storage and a player you can style. You build timed buttons, split tests and the sale postback yourself. Without someone to build them, this is the wrong exit from a Vimeo Free library.

Usage rates are in the [Bunny Stream review](/reviews/bunny-stream). Pricing across several hosts is compared in the [cheap video hosting guide](/best/cheap-video-hosting).

[Read the Bunny Stream review](/reviews/bunny-stream)

[ ](/reviews/cloudflare-stream)

#### 8\. Cloudflare Stream: best Vimeo Free alternative for usage billing

Cloudflare Stream is the pick if you have a developer and want cheap, predictable, global video delivery on a network that will not buckle under load, and you are ready to build the VSL conversion layer yourself. It is not a sales-video player out of the box.

Cloudflare Stream bills starting from the first video you store. If the site already runs on Cloudflare, Stream is a delivery add-on for that stack.

The figures you get describe delivery. There is no sales layer in the player, and the cart does not send a purchase back. The [Cloudflare Stream review](/reviews/cloudflare-stream) itemises the per-minute charges.

Leave it aside when you need a host with no invoice.

[Read the Cloudflare Stream review](/reviews/cloudflare-stream)

[ ](/reviews/mux-video)

#### 9\. Mux: best Vimeo Free alternative for developer delivery minutes

Mux is the pick if you have a developer and want included quality-of-experience analytics, optional DRM and fast just-in-time publishing, and you will build autoplay, calls to action and attribution yourself.

Mux offers a free tier for a developer building on the API. Usage on that tier is measured in delivery minutes. A product team can start there.

A portfolio that needs a player this week should use Wistia. A media buyer who needs the sale tied to the play should use TrackPlay. The [Mux review](/reviews/mux-video) lists the developer plans.

[Read the Mux review](/reviews/mux-video)

### Free Vimeo alternatives: more storage, or a sales pitch

People also search for Vimeo alternatives that stay free. The useful split is still the same two jobs.

**The embed has to stay up, and the invoice has to stay at zero.** Wistia. Adilo if you want tools in the player and you will read the storage limit in the account. Voomly Light, when the test is only five videos.

**The video has to sell on traffic you pay for.** Vidalytics, on a free allowance of plays. TrackPlay, when the cart has to post the verified sale back. A content library's channels and webinars sit outside TrackPlay. Extra free gigabytes on a general host leave that postback out.

Vimeo also cannot report finishes when the file plays outside its own player. The [analytics FAQ](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/12426192735633-FAQ-Analytics) says those views get no finish or engagement counts. A sales page that needs to know who finished, and who bought, needs a player that records the play.

### What I would do

I'd open Wistia today if the only failure is storage.

I'd open TrackPlay if I am already buying clicks and the sale has to be reported against the play. Vidalytics is the one I'd use when that report can wait.

I'd leave Bunny, Cloudflare and Mux for a different job. They bill, or they expect a developer. Someone leaving Vimeo Free is usually trying to avoid both.

### When a paid Vimeo plan is the real question

Everything above is the Free plan. If the logo, the privacy modes or a larger library are worth paying Vimeo for, start with the [Vimeo review](/reviews/vimeo) and [Vimeo pricing](/reviews/vimeo/pricing). [The Vimeo alternatives page](/alternatives/vimeo) ranks the options for people leaving a paid plan. [Wistia vs Vimeo](/compare/wistia-vs-vimeo) puts the two paid products side by side.

Panda's offer ends with the trial. After Bunny's trial, the account has a monthly minimum spend. Cloudflare Stream bills starting from the first video you store. Mux counts its free allowance in delivery minutes for a developer. When you need a price instead of a free tier, the [cheap video hosting guide](/best/cheap-video-hosting) compares those meters. [The alternatives index](/alternatives) lists every host.

### How we picked these alternatives

Four things set the order. Whether you still pay nothing after the first month. How much embeddable storage, or how many plays, that tier allows. Whether the free player shows the host's logo. Whether a play can be tied to a sale.

A portfolio that only needs the file to play puts storage first. A page with ad spend on it puts the player that can sell first. Trials and usage bills sit lower, because you cannot stay on them at no charge.

Sources were Vimeo's Help Center, each vendor's pricing or free-plan page, and comments from people already on Vimeo who want to leave. We do not run these tools on live campaigns. The method is written out in [how we research hosts](/methodology).

#### How I'd decide

I'd judge any Vimeo Free alternative on two numbers before I read its feature list: what one sales video costs a month for the traffic you run, and what the player gives back for that money. The [VSL hosting cost calculator](/best/vsl-hosting-cost-calculator-what-one-sales-video-costs-on-each-host) works out the first from your video length, visitors and watch rate, using each vendor's published rates. For the second, I would weigh [one thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/vimeo/comments/1v9dzhf/free%5Falternative%5Fto%5Fvimeo%5Ffor%5Fportfolio%5Fvideos/) and [a second thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/vimeo/comments/1sxvcex/looking%5Ffor%5Fa%5Ffree%5Fvideo%5Fhosting%5Falternative%5Fto/) above any vendor's own claims.

### Frequently asked questions

Is Vimeo Free enough for business embeds?

Only while the files on your site stay inside the managed library described above. Clips that never leave Vimeo, and are never embedded, sit in a separate unlimited bucket.

What is the best free alternative to Vimeo?

Wistia, when you need a larger embed library at no charge. Vidalytics for a short run of plays, or TrackPlay when the purchase has to post back, if the video has to sell.

Does Vimeo Free allow password-protected embeds?

No. A password, an unlisted link or an embed-only setting belongs to a paid plan. On the Free plan that video is Private, and the old embed stops for visitors.

Can I hide the Vimeo logo on the Free plan?

No. Taking the logo off, along with the play bar and the fullscreen button, is a paid embedding control. The Free plan plays with the logo showing.

Mara edits the reviews and roundups on VSL Host Report. She checks autoplay, watch time, timed buttons, lead gates and page speed when the visitor is new and the traffic is paid. She also maps what each host really costs, whether it bills per play, per gigabyte or per seat, and rebuilds the monthly bill for a typical VSL funnel. For each piece she reads long-term user reports across forums and review sites, works through the vendor's own docs and pricing, and confirms the numbers before a verdict goes live.
